Oscar has Happy Feet

Happy Feet took home the Academy Award for best animated picture for 2006. Quite a feat for a bunch of penguins. The film joins Shrek, Spirited Away, Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, and Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit as a winner of the award newly created in 2001.

I haven't seen the film, but I have a hunch it won in part for its eco message. At least Pixar isn't guaranteed a win every time. In fact, over the last 6 years, 5 studios have won the award. While Pixar has won twice, its sorta sad that Disney is yet to take home the award. Unless Meet the Robinsons is a lot better than the break dancing T-Rex in the preview leads me to believe, it doesn't look like 2007 is gonna end that drought either.

Hey ChipChief!

I saw Happy Feet at the theater & went in with serious skepticism but ended up enjoying it the most out of the recent animated films I've seen recently. (http://korykinnick.blogspot.com/2006/11/late-to-movies-happy-feet.html) Yes there's an eco message, but really I think what won was 1)the originality of a Moulin Rouge-esque musical involving penguins and 2)the message that if you're different from the mainstream, you should embrace it, not hide it.
