Summer 07 Box Office Predictions - Part 1

With May just around the corner, it's time to predict this summer's Top 9 films. Last year, by the time I stopped keeping track, it was obvious that my predictions were WAY off. But, I really think I can do better this year. I expect some big numbers, so here we go with #9 - #7.

#9 Evan Almighty - 22 JUN 07

Jim Carrey's Bruce Almighty pulled down $243 million 4 years ago, but I would argue that Jim was a bigger star then than Steve Carell is now. Still, Steve's performance as Evan was one of the film's best aspects. Now that Evan is in the spotlight, I think this film will be even better than Bruce. This may not be as big a draw as Bruce, but it is an all ages comedy, one of the few tis jam packed summer. $170,000,000 should be within reach.

#8 Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer - 15 JUN 07

In spite of bad reviews, the first Fantastic Four film earned $155 million 2 years ago. This one has everything that one had going for it plus the wise inclusion of the popular Silver Surfer. I just can't see how this film won't outperform the original. It is coming out when Spider-man 3 will still be in theatres, but most people should have seen Spidey by the time the Surfer arrives. The recent announcement that Galactus would be a Storm Cloud aside, the Surfer is poised to earn $175,000,000.

#7 The Bourne Ultimatum - 03 AUG 07

Another sequel (this list is full of em). The first Bourne (Identity) earned $122 million and became a smash hit on DVD. The second Bourne (Supremacy) improved to $176 million. Its been 3 years and I expect this Bourne (Ultimatum) to again improve, though less than last time. An August release with little competition aside from Rush Hour 3 should see Bourne making $185,000,000.

What do you think? Care to make any predictions? Come back in a couple days for the rest of the list.
