I have to say it looks pretty good. I'm on the waiting list to get it from the library. Although given my experience with HP5, maybe I should see the movie first and not let the book ruin it for me. What do you think?

even though most books are better than the movies (unless the book is a novelization ala spider-man 3 the novel) i have a hunch that this book will help to explain the world in which the story is set that may help the understanding of the movie.

i still think your HP5 experience is odd. to me, HP5 the movie sort of improved on my memory of the book. but it has been a while since i read it.

Talking with my old brother last night, he made the point that one reason the HP movies suffer compared to the books is that, in a large novel you can hide foreshadowing and plot twist details amidst the minutia of the daily life and wizarding world stuff, whereas the movies are so shortened that anything with no real impact on the plot is cut, meaning that there is no chance to "hide" these plot elements. So pretty much everything you see is crucial to the plot even when the filmmakers might try to make it seem to not be.

In sum, maybe the films just lose subtlety as a result.

then again, grawp inexplicably dodged the cut.
