The Friends and Foes of Batman - Floronic Man

Jason Woodrue, the Floronic Man was originally created as an enemy to the Atom, he also appeared in Swamp Thing. The Floronic Man made his theatrical debut in Batman and Robin played by Lionel Luthor AKA John Glover, though in a non-mutated state.

A bio-chemical mishap turned Jason Woodrue into a plant-human creature, similar to the Swamp Thing, but with a more vengeful nature and an obsession with protecting the plant world from what he perceives as an assault by humanity. He nearly achieved this goal once by using his newly gained control over plants to make them produce excess oxygen, to the point that the slightest spark would cause devastating fires around the world. Woodrue was foiled when the Swamp Thing pointed out that this attempt was in fact devastating the plants since killing all the oxygen breathers would mean cutting off the production of carbon dioxide that plants need to live; the plant world rejected Woodrue as a result and he went insane. He was then apprehended by the Justice League.

The Floronic Man was responsible for mutating Poison Ivy, was instrumental in discovering the true nature of the Swamp Thing, and has fought the JLA on several occasions. As the marijuana product in Gotham City grew, it was discovered that the Floronic Man was behind it all, believing that marijuana could save the world.

After breaking Poison Ivy out of Arkham with his two henchwomen Holly and Eva, Floronic Man proceded to explain his past to Batman and Poison Ivy, telling the story of how he prevented a plot of Swamp Thing's, only to get decapitated. After scientists managed to keep his head alive, the first thing he came in contact with was marijuana. Regenerating a plant body, he began his quest to flood the streets of Gotham City with his advanced and cheap pot. Making a plan, Floronic Man took some of Poison Ivy's DNA in order to experiment and mix with his own in an attempt to create a "child". Poison Ivy, in exchange, got a trunk full of dope money, and was free to walk away. However, she decided that she didn't want Floronic Man running the world, so she let the tied-up Batman go, and after a short battle, Batman noticed that "Floro" was standing in a puddle, and tore down a cable from the ceiling. After grounding Floro to the spot by electrocuting him, Batman managed to decapitate him once again. Poison Ivy, after taking out Holly and Eva, paralyzed Batman with a kiss, leaving him in the tunnels below Gotham while she took off with her money.

Spoilerific Justice League Details... Maybe

Just to give an example of the kind of crap that floats across the internet (and gets perpetuated by sites like mine) I found these FAQs on AICN. Now, I should say a similar set of FAQs surfaced a year or more before Spidey 3, and turned out to be pretty accurate. So HIGHLIGHT at your own risk. Too bad this movie will pale in comparison of the JL cartoon. Why don't they just call this movie Superfriends, since thats what its probably going to be.

Wonder Who-man?

Readers of this blog may wonder why I haven't been posting more on the upcoming Justice League movie. Well, the truth is that about 95% of the news seems to me sheer rumor that is debunked within 24 hours. Besides, this movie sounds like a train wreck waiting to happen. Why o why are they casting the Justice League with 20 something actors. I think it would be awesome to see older, seasoned Superman and Batman, with maybe the Flash being a bit younger. If they are throwing continuity out the window, why not at least try something different?

Anyways, it sounds like Wonder Woman has been cast. Who knows if this is really true, but seeing as how I have no idea who this woman is, it would be a lame rumor to make up. Theresa Palmer, replacement for Sarah Michelle Gellar in The Grudge 2 has landed the role. She obviously needs some hair dye, but who knows maybe she will be great. Maybe she will star in a successful spin-off franchise. But at this point though, with all the ridiculous rumors abounding, its tough to even care.

A Look at Classic Toasters

Sci-Fi's Flash Gordon is a horrible show. The only reason people are watching it is to catch a glimpse of Battlestar Galactica mini-sodes that are setting up for the upcoming TV movie Razor. Anyways, if you haven't been following, these tales have been following a young Bill Adama AKA Husker in the original cylon war. The first two episodes showed Adama and his girlfriend "making it" and then her dying. Episodes 3 and 4 have been full of sweet sweet action and throwbacks to 70's style Galactica. I guess there are 7 in all, so stay tuned.

A Little Birdie Told Me Who is Coming to Smallville

Black Canary, sonic siren and long time love interest of Green Arrow, is coming to Smallville in January. If you can't get Wonder Woman, then Black Canary is an awesome choice to add some double X chromosomes to the Justice League line-up. Hopefully she will bust Lois "butterface"'s eardrums while she is in town.
