Hulk Smashes Box Office

Well, Hulk is out and did about as good as the last one (with similar mixed reviews), but not quite. This time its a victory though because they expected less. This puts big green smack in the middle of the pack near the debuts of the Fantastic 4 films and the original X-Men. To be fair, the true test will be in the legs. If Hulkster makes $150 million, they will be pleased. As long as those damned Hulk hands keep selling, Marvel will be making bank.

The Panda is now a bona fide blockbuster, kung-fuing through $100 million. There was some other shuffling around in the ranks, but nothing radical.

Next week is the potential double bombing of Get Smart and Love Guru, who no matter how they do will be cannibalizing each others audiences. Get Smart indeed.

#1 Iron Man - $297,428,000
#2 Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - $275,329,000
#3 The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian - $131,744,000
#4 Sex and the City - $119,919,000
#5 Kung Fu Panda - $117,998,000
#6 What Happens in Vegas - $75,788,000
#7 You Don't Mess With the Zohan - $68,790,000
#8 The Incredible Hulk - $54,538,000
#9 Speed Racer - $42,018,000

Speed Racer isn't even on the list. Did they pull it? I mean it was down -81% last week. Hulk is getting pretty good word of mouth.

Speed Racer will be dropped next week, and it will actually start to mean something to be on the list. i think what happens in vegas will be gone soon too, thankfully, though sadly sex and the city may be a keeper.
