No Joke, People Love Crazy Clowns

The Dark Knight has amazingly busted through the $200 million mark in just 5 days. By tomorrow, The Dark Knight will have already out earned Batman Begins and by the end of the week, it will be the all-time biggest Bat-film. Not only that, but even adjusted for inflation, The Dark Knight will already be the 2nd biggest Batman movie by the end of its second weekend with a decent shot of out-grossing Batman '89s adjusted total. In any case, the coveted $400 million mark looks quite attainable now.

That is just crazy! I remember the mania for Batman back in 1989, and to think that Mr Batman has hit that level of popularity again is fantastic, especially after all he went through in the 90's. But lets give credit where it is due. Its that Batman Joker face-up that is the common element in 1989 and 2008. People just cannot get enough of that Joker.

Might be tough to top that inflation adjusted total. Especially given the decidedly un-family-friendly mood of this one. I remember seeing the first one when I was a kid, but I wouldn't take kids to this one.

A week ago, I would have used that argument to say that Batman would be hard pressed to hit $300 million. Either there are a lot of bad parents out there taking kids to this movie, or there are a lot more nerds in the world than we realized.

Seriously, as of now it looks like Dark Knight will be have at least $300 million by the end of Sunday. Whats another $140 million after that. My money is on The Dark Knight.
